Canada's military wants armed UAVs.

Gen. Jonathan Vance, chief of Canada's defense staff, told the Canadian Senate that he wants both ISR and armed UAVs, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

"In my view there's little point to having a UAV that can see a danger but can't strike it if it needs to," Vance said.

Armed UAVs would be useful both defending Canadian territory and in overseas operations, Vance said. Canada has been studying modernization of its surveillance drones through its Joint Unmanned Surveillance and Target Acquisition Project (JUSTAS) project.

"Vance acknowledged drones are controversial, and he anticipates a debate over how they should be used," the CBC said.
