Schiebel Camcopter S-100 demos sense-and-avoid tech

Austrian firm Schiebel and Dutch authorities have tested a UAV sense-and-avoid system.

The unmanned helicopter faced both a manned aircraft and manned helicopter. "Several scenarios were successfully executed where the Camcopter S-100 'unexpectedly' encountered an intruder aircraft," Schiebel said. "The system then determined in real time the corrective action to ensure the necessary separation from the intruder aircraft."
