The Israel Aerospace Industries Heron Unmanned Aerial System has been selected for the corps-level UAV upgrade project of the Republic of Korea Army.

According to the country's Defense Acquisition Program Administration, the Heron — a medium altitude long endurance UAS for strategic and tactical missions — scored the highest of systems evaluated for "price, capability [and] operational suitability."

The Heron's main features and capabilities, as stated on Israel Aerospace Industries' website, include:

■Simultaneously 4 sensors use capability.

■Satellite communication for extended range.

■Two proven simultaneous automatic takeoff and landing systems for maximal safety.

■Fully redundant, state-of-the-art avionics.

■Retractable landing gear.
