L-3 Southern California Microwave (L-3 SCM) has been chosen by Lockheed Martin to provide a data link for British UAVs.
Under the contract with Lockheed Martin's Mission Systems and Training division, L-3 SCM will provide its MICRO Secure Digital Data Link (MICRO SDDL) as the communications backbone for the Desert Hawk III DDL small unmanned aircraft. The MICRO SDDL transceivers enable optimal utilization of frequency spectrum through a single RF channel supporting an IP-based, bidirectional TDMA secure communications link, according to the an L-3 news release.
"Our MICRO SDDL is a very flexible, reliable and robust wireless communications system that meets the demanding performance requirements of SUAS systems such as the Desert Hawk III DDL," said L-3 SCM business development director Dennis Burman.
