Airbus has released a counter-UAV system which detects — and hijacks — UAVs intruding into sensitive areas.

The system combines existing Airbus radars, infrared cameras and direction finders to detect and identify UAVs at ranges of 5 to 10 kilometers, according to an Airbus news release.

"Based on an extensive threat library and real-time analysis of control signals, a jammer then interrupts the link between drone and pilot and/or its navigation," Airbus said. "Furthermore, the direction finder tracks the position of the pilot who subsequently can be arrested."

The jamming technology also includes remote control classification and GPS spoofing, as "This allows effective and specific jamming and also a controlled takeover of the UAV," said Airbus.
