The Army has upgraded the sensor gimbal on its Raven hand-launched unmanned aircraft systems.

The gimbal for the Raven, naturally named the Raven Gimbal, was fitted on the Ravens of selected units last week, including the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, according to an Army news release.

Instead of pointing the UAS toward the target so the camera can see, the new gimbal can rotate 360 degrees. A single front-mounted lens replaces fixed front- and side-view cameras. The payload also features better infrared capabilities for day or night missions.
