A Global Hawk UAV that will be a NATO surveillance platform has been unveiled.
The NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) system will comprise five UAVs, plus fixed and mobile ground stations, according to a Northrop Grumman news release.
"With the ability to fly for up to 30 hours at a time, the high-altitude long-endurance system will provide NATO leaders with persistent global situational awareness," Northrop Grumman said. "The aircraft is equipped with leading-edge technology, including the Multi-Platform Radar Technology Insertion Program (MP-RTIP) sensor. The MP-RTIP will provide critical data to commanders during operations in any weather, day or night."
Northrop Grumman is teaming with Airbus Defense and Space, Italy's Selex, and Norway's Kongsberg. There are 15 NATO nations involved in the program.
