The 497th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group (DGS-1)
, based at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, provides near-real time, high-confidence, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance to forward-operating joint force and component commanders and warfighters. DGS-1 has more than 1,600 total force military, civilian and contractor personnel, and in the past year the team processed and exploited 3,000 MQ-1 and MQ-9 intelligence gathering missions and disseminated 47,000 intelligence reports. Their actions directed 193 operations and 352 deliberate and dynamic strikes, resulting in 445 confirmed insurgents removed from the battlefield. Additionally, DGS-1 operators optimized threat warning navigation tracks for defensive counter-air support in their area of responsibility.
