Lockheed Martin has been awarded two contracts to upgrade the infrared sensors on the F/A-18E/F.
Under the contract awarded by prime contract Boeing, Lockheed Martin will upgrade its IRST21 sensor system, including “developing advanced software, performing hardware upgrades and delivering prototypes” according to a Lockheed Martin announcement.
“These efforts will further enhance IRST21′s proven detection, tracking and ranging capabilities in radar-denied environments.”
The Block II contracts are worth up to $100 million. “The U.S. Navy’s strategic block upgrade program enables us to continue advancing our technology and rapidly deliver it to the war fighter,” said Lockheed Martin Vice President Paul Lemmo.
