Italian company Leonardo will develop next-generation decoys for the Royal Air Force.
Leonardo has partnered with the RAF's Rapid Capability Office to develop expendable active decoys for British jet fighters. The decoys will be based on Leonardo's BriteCloud, which Britain is also evaluating for operational use, according to a Leonardo news release.
"BriteCloud is a radar jamming decoy for fighter aircraft that can be deployed from a standard chaff and flare dispenser," Leonardo said. "It protects aircrafts from modern, sophisticated radar-guided missiles that are able to outwit older, anti-radar countermeasures such as chaff."
