Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $1.6 billion Army contract for counterbattery radar.
The order-dependent contract was awarded for the full-rate production and deployment of the Counterfire Target Acquisition Radar System, according to the Department of Defense contract announcement.
Work location and funding will be determined for each order, with the contract scheduled for completion by March 2022.
Lockheed's Q-53 active electronically scanned array radar is intended to replace the Army's Q-36 and Q-37 radars for determining the location of hostile fire. The Q-53 "provides enhanced performance, including greater mobility, increased reliability and supportability, lower life-cycle cost, and reduced crew size," according to the company's website.
