The U.S. Navy has approved Lockheed Martin's Symphony Block 40 counter-IED system, according to a Lockheed Martin announcement.
Based on the earlier Symphony Block 10/20 systems used in Afghanistan and Iraq, Symphony Block 40 "is an open architecture system developed with the latest technologies to address new and emerging threats," Lockheed Martin said.
"This system simultaneously jams select or multiple electronic signals used to trigger a radio-controlled (RC) IED. The jammer is a small, vehicle-mounted system with an open architecture design that provides continuous coverage across the entire threat spectrum, as well as includes updated capabilities for maximum effectiveness, security, and response," the company said.
"Symphony Block 40 builds on the proven performance and 10 years of experience protecting war fighters," said Joe Ottaviano, Lockheed Martin's director of electronic warfare.
