Northrop Grumman has been awarded an $8.5 million Air Force contract to develop advanced infrared technologies.

Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will "support the Advanced Staring Infrared Search and Track Technologies program intended to identify, mature, and demonstrate technology solutions supporting the development of a future airborne long-range offensive infrared search and track capability based on staring (non-scanned) system configuration," according to the Department of Defense contract announcement.

The work is scheduled to be completed by September 2019.
