BAE Systems will produce 12 Tactical Signals Intelligence Payload systems under a $70 million contract that also includes engineering support services, according to the company. The systems will serve the U.S. Army and Special Operations Command.

The first planned deployment will involve the MQ-1C Gray Eagle UAV, but the system is adaptable to other manned and unmanned aerial platforms.

The TSP system uses an open, software-defined architecture to make its network of sensors interoperable and able to communicate with each other. Additionally, the system's ability to capture a 360-degree aerial field of view gives the ground commander a comprehensive picture, allowing the commander, sensor operators, and analysts optimal situational awareness so they can make decisions in near real-time, according to BAE.
