Northrop Grumman has been awarded a $35.5 million Navy airborne laser mine detection contract.

The contract is for production of the Airborne Laser Mine Detection System , which uses pulsed laser light and streak tube receivers to find the hidden explosives, according to Northrop Grumman's description.

The equipment will be mounted on MH-60S helicopters.

The contract was awarded by Program Executive Office Littoral Combat Ships. It is scheduled to be completed by February 2021.
