DJI, maker of the popular Phantom quadcopters for hobbyists, and FLIR Systems are teaming to develop thermal imaging for aircraft.
While the DJI announcement doesn't specifically mention unmanned systemsUAVs, it did say that "combining DJI's leadership in aerial platforms and FLIR's first-class thermal-imaging technology expands the uses of aerial systems to provide different types of sensory data essential for firefighting, agriculture, inspection and several other industrial-use cases."
The first product the duo will release is the Zenmuse XT — billed as the "world's most-powerful aerial thermal-imaging camera" — in the first quarter of 2016. The Zenmuse will combine a FLIR thermal imager with DJI's gimbal stabilization and Lightbridge video transmission.
