The Air Force is in discussions to stand up a hub that would provide cyber capabilities faster.

The new center would act exclusively as a cyber rapid capabilities office, modeled after the Air Force’s Rapid Capibilities Office and the newly established space rapid capabilities office that work to provide solve urgent needs faster than the traditional procurement system.

The goal for such a center would be to see how the service can leverage authorities that underpin the other rapid capabilities offices “to tackle the cyber challenges from a rapid capabilities standpoint and a cyber standpoint,” Maj. Gen. Robert Skinner, commander of 24th Air Force/Air Forces Cyber, said Sept. 17 during a panel at the annual Air, Space and Cyber conference.

The cyber office "gets at how do we become faster and more agile from an acquisition standpoint across the breadth of cyber requirements,” Skinner told Fifth Domain following the panel. “We have an Air Force RCO, a space RCO. That’s what we’re trying to drive is continuing to be able to leverage existing direction, existing legislation and existing guidance and instruction to be able to go faster.”

Skinner stressed the office is in the discussion phase, but that he believes such a center would have momentum.
