L-3 has been awarded an $81.8 million contract from Raytheon Australia to supply the Australian military with 236 Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs). Two L-3 units, Global Communications Solutions and LInkabit, will fulfill the contract's requirements.

The VSAT terminals will come from L-3's Hawkeye and Panther famiies, integrated with L-3 Linkabit modems, according to a company news release. In 2013, L-3 won a contract for 54 Hawkeye III Lite terminals.

Linkabit provides full-mesh IP over SATCOM, which enables forces to collaborate, access the Global Information Grid, and exchange voice, video and data, according to L-3.

The new order will give the ADF an enhanced ability to use the Wideband Global SATCOM system, according to the company.

The island continent is "an emerging market for WGS-certified terminals and we look forward to building on the valued relationship we share with our Australian partners," said Bob Jacobson , president of L-3 GCS and L-3's Tactical SATCOM sector.
