Rockwell Collins has been awarded a $12.7 million Navy contract modification to upgrade the E-6B airborne command post.

Under the contract modification, Rockwell Collins will install “Block I/Internet Protocol Bandwidth Expansion Phase 3/Block IA Very Low Transmit Terminal/Nuclear Planning and Execution System kit on one E-6B aircraft,” according to the Department of Defense contract announcement.

The E-6B serves as a command and control centers for the Pentagon’s strategic nuclear forces and can relay orders to submarines and destroyers.

“This modification also provides for field support engineering, training, software licenses, technology refresh activities and travel funding in support of E-6B Block I full-rate production.”

The work is scheduled to be completed by June 2019.
