Serco has been awarded a $38 million contract to protect missile early-warning radars from high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP).

Under the five-year contract awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the company will upgrade the HEMP protection of the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System at Thule Air Force Base, Greenland, according to a company news release.

"Serco will enhance and modernize the radar's HEMP protection via a design-build-install-test approach supporting U.S. Air Force Space Command and the U.S. Strategic Command," the company said.

Serco has upgraded HEMP protection at several Space Command sites in Alaska, North Dakota, Massachusetts and the United Kingdom.
