The $14.1 million contract with Twisted Pair Solutions, a subsidiary of Motorola Solutions, will provide a voice-system "glue" for the Army's command posts. It converts disparate communications through a Voice over Internet Protocol app allowing any authorized user with a VoIP device to communicate between tactical and coalition networks.
According to Motorola, the Army has purchased more than 1,000 WAVE kits in its effort to decrease barriers to interoperability and extend its networks beyond proprietary systems.
WAVE was assessed as part of the Network Integration Evaluation construct, and after the successful tests the contract was modified to allow for universal use across the Army portfolio. WAVE's capabilities will be applied under PEO C3T's Project Manager Mission Command and be deployed by PEO C3T's Warfighter Information Network-Tactical Increment 1 as part of its Disaster Incident Response Emergency Communications Terminal package to effectively distribute mission-critical voice collaboration.
"[WAVE's] associated flexibility and scalability will be a tremendous value for the Army both from a capability and a cost perspective," said LTC Shane Taylor, product manager for Tactical Mission Command, in an Army news release.
