The order, the first full-rate production order, includes more than 300 vehicle-based network communication nodes, according to a company announcement.

"As full-rate production begins, our engineering teams will continue working closely with the Army to upgrade technology and human-factors design, giving soldiers a decisive information advantage wherever they are called to serve," said General Dynamics Mission Systems president Chris Marzilli.

"Now we can focus on making further improvements to the system and fielding Increment 2 to the rest of the Army," said former WIN-T PM COL Ed Swanson in an earlier interview, explaining the importance of full-rate production. (Read the full interview here.)

"There are a number of improvements planned for size, weight and power [SWaP] reductions, increasing system performance, strengthening the cybersecurity posture and upgrading network operations [NetOps] capabilities," he said. "As we receive more feedback from soldiers, we will continue to look for opportunities to improve system performance, continue to reduce complexity and leverage commercial technology advances.
