The Army has issued a second request for information for the Distributed Common Ground System – Army (DCGS-A) Increment 2, seeking industry feedback on specific capabilities.

The Army's areas of interest for this RFI include cloud computing, ease-of-use initiatives, big data analytics, data fusion and pattern analysis, defensive and offensive cyber operations, sensor management, and on-the-move operations, according to an Army news release.

The Army currently plans to use the CJCSI 3170.01H Information Technology Box (IT Box) requirements process for incremental software releases that will allow DCGS-A to evolve over time.

"The primary focus of the Increment 2 program capability approach will be the alignment to the Intelligence Community Information Technology Enterprise (ICITE)," noted the RFI. "Compliance with the ICITE standards will ensure that the Army delivers a capability that will endure across Intelligence domains and continue the evolution of the Intelligence processing capabilities over time."

Increment 2 software will add new capabilities to work with UAVs such as Gray Eagle Enhanced Medium Altitude Reconnaissance Surveillance System (EMARSS), as well as providing cross security domain protection, fusion workflow data management, machine foreign language translation and thin client framework technologies. It will also leverage the intelligence community's investments in IT.

The competition for Increment 2 will begin in 2016, with an industry day set for January 20, 2015.
